VALENCIA, Calif. — Baylor women’s golf fought its way to third place after two rounds on Monday at the Bruin-Wave Invitational, where the stroke average neared 78 at Valencia Country Club

BU spent the majority of the day at the top of the leaderboard and was within a few shots of UCLA as the Bears made the turn in the second round. The final nine holes proved to be a struggle for Baylor, who played the inward half at 18-over after going out in 3-under on the first nine.

Baylor’s 21-over 597 through 36 holes trails only UCLA and Arizona, who shot a 574 and a 589, respectively. On its home turf, UCLA was the only team to break par and holds a 15-shot lead over the Wildcats entering Tuesday.

Silje Ohma continued her strong play as of late, to finish Monday in a tie for ninth with her teammate Sera Hasegawa, the duo shooting matching 3-over 147s. After day one, UCLA's Francesca Fiorellini was one of three players in red figures, shooting a 7-under 137 to lead her teammate Angela Liu by three.

THE RUNDOWN
Round One
Hasegawa led the Bears in round one with a 1-under 71. After a couple of bogeys and a birdie to start, Hasegawa was 1-over through five holes but birdied two of her final three at Nos. 16 and 18 to close down her outward half. Nine-straight pars to finish the round clinched her team-leading 10th round at par or better.

Ohma finished round one just two shots behind Hasegawa with a 1-over 73. Pushing to 1-under with a birdie at No. 15, the junior gave one back with a bogey at No. 16 to turn at even. She jumped back into red figures with a birdie at No. 1 but fell back over par with bogeys at Nos. 5 and 7.

BaiMai Seema got off to a solid start in round one with a 2-over 74. Bogeys at Nos. 10 and 14 around a lone birdie at No. 13 put the senior at 1-over through five holes before she turned it one with three birdies in her final four holes en route to a 2-under first nine. Back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 2 and 3 put her back at even before she made a double at No. 8 to close out her 74.

Jenny Lee shot a 5-over 77 in round one. Five bogeys in her first seven holes put her in a hole, but she settled in with 11-straight pars to finish the round.

Ashleen Kaur returned to the lineup with a 9-over 81 on Monday morning. Four bogeys in her first six holes dropped her to 4-over at the turn. She would add three more bogeys and a double on the inward half.

On Monday, Bridget Boczar shot a 3-over 75 as an individual in the first round.

Second Round
Ohma burst out of the gate with four-straight birdies to start at Nos. 10-13 but made six bogeys on her final 14 holes for a 2-over 74.

Hasegawa also began with a birdie at No. 10 but gave back a shot with a bogey at No. 12 to turn at even par. The senior got back into red figures on the front nine with birdies at Nos. 1 and 3 but dropped six shots on the final five holes with double bogeys at Nos. 5, 6 and 9, a bogey at No. 7 and a birdie at No. 8.

Seema finished Monday in a tie for 21st after a 5-over 77. She played a good first nine with a pair of birdies at Nos. 11 and 16 around a bogey at No. 14 to make the turn with a 1-under 35. The senior ran into trouble on the second nine with bogeys at Nos. 2 and 7l and double-bogeys at Nos. 6 and 8.

Kaur beat the stroke average in round two with a 4-over 76 to climb into a tie for 40th. Sitting at 1-over through five, the sophomore made her second eagle of the season at No. 15 to jump back into red figures. Back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 17 and 18 saw her turn with a 1-over 37. Making two more birdies to start her second nine at Nos. 1 and 3, Kaur played her final six holes at 5-over.

Lee recorded an 8-over 80 in the second round to tie with Kaur in 40th. Three bogeys on her front side were followed by a 5-over back nine.
