WACO, Texas – Baylor leaned on a pivotal second-half surge to pull away from UTSA, 73-55, on Sunday afternoon at Foster Pavilion.
Jana Van Gytenbeek delivered a season-high 16 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the field and 4-of-8 from three. She added three assists and a steal and hit a pair of three pointers to keep the Bears in the green early.
Taliah Scott extended her double-digit scoring streak to 10 games, finishing with 19 points while going 6-of-11 from the field and 6-of 6-at the free throw line. Scott scored Baylor’s final basket of the third quarter and opened the fourth with an assist and a layup to help the Bears maintain separation.
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs added 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, marking her sixth double-digit game this season. She contributed five rebounds and had a team high five steals, tying her career best, helping Baylor convert 16 points off 21 UTSA turnovers.
Kyla Abraham provided her biggest minutes inside, finishing with a season-high eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting day while adding five rebounds. Yuting Deng posted eight points as well and grabbed a season-high five rebounds.
Baylor shot 46.2% from the floor and 81% at the line, while holding UTSA to 37.9% shooting and just 1-of-4 on free throws. Sunday’s game was just the second time this season BU lost the battle of the boards, 40-31, but pulled out their first win this year when doing so.
UTSA was led by eight rebounds and Ereauna Hardaway’s 15 points. The Roadrunners had their best stretch with a 9-0 run late in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit before Baylor responded with a Van Gytenbeek jumper and a Deng three to restore control.
Baylor held the lead for 34:29 of game time and never trailed after the opening minutes.
