MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Baylor men’s basketball fell to Memphis in its first road test of the season at the FedExForum on Saturday afternoon, 78-71.



Memphis (4-4) held Baylor to under 35-percent from the field and forced 13 turnovers, the most for Baylor (6-2) since facing Tarleton State earlier this season.



Baylor’s Tounde Yessoufou put up his third game this season with 20-plus points, finishing with 22 points with an eight-for-15 clip. The true freshman has shot above 50-percent from the field in the last three games for BU.



Cameron Carr continued his double-figure streak with 13 points and a career-best of 10 rebounds on the day. Isaac Williams IV brought in valuable minutes off the bench with eight points and four assists.



THE RUNDOWN

Memphis took the attack early, forcing four turnovers in the first four minutes of the game. At the first media break, Carr was responsible for all of BU’s points on the board, trailing 9-6.



The Tigers kept putting the heat on the Bears, forcing a scoring drought over three minutes long, including no made field goals for five minutes. However, the Baylor defense still pressed Memphis, keeping the game into a one-to-two possession battle.



By the end of the half, Carr (11), Yessoufou (8) and Williams  (8) accounted for 27 of Baylor’s 34 points. A three by Yessoufou to end the first half put Baylor trailing, 37-34. BU defense held Memphis’ 10-man rotation to 37-percent from the field.



Two consecutive made baskets by Yessoufou put him in double-figures for the eighth straight game and got the second half started. A jumper by Caden Powell gave Baylor its first lead since the beginning of the game at 46-45.



After starting the game 0-for-4, Yessoufou hit his stride, earning a career-best in made threes. The Tigers didn’t let up after the Bears took the lead and clawed back to tie the game, 56-56, midway through the second half.



Memphis took off on a run, sinking seven of its last eight baskets to retake the lead 60-58 at the under-eight media timeout.



At the final media timeout, Baylor and Memphis were in a battle for the final point under a 66-63 deficit. The Tigers held BU to no field goals in over three minutes, extending the lead to 71-65 heading into the final minute.



Even though the Bears’ defense held the Tigers to two-of-their-last-ten field goals in the final minutes of the contest, BU was unable get the momentum back, falling 78-71.

Baylor returns home for its second of five home games in the month of December, facing off against Norfolk State on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN+.
