No. 1 Baylor A&T Prepped for Title Meet, Qualified for 14 Event Finals
Bears charge ahead into final two days

SIOUX FALLS, S.D – No. 1 seeded Baylor acrobatics & tumbling is set to face No. 2-seed Oregon in the Finals on Saturday evening at the Elmen Center, starting at 5 p.m. CT.



NOTABLES

  *   Baylor is currently on a 49-meet winning streak.
  *   BU is competing for its 10th-straight national title, all under coach Felecia Mulkey. There was no championship in 2020 due to COVID-19.
  *   This is the sixth time Baylor will face Oregon in the title meet.
     *   BU has now faced Oregon in 60% of the title meets it has competed for. The rest have been Azusa Pacific (10%), Quinnipiac (10%) and Gannon (20%).
  *   Payton Washington tied the highest score for the Bears in a championship meet in her Open Pass in the semifinal, earning a 9.975/10.
  *   The perfect 10 in both 5-Element Acro and Inversion Pyramid were just the second in program history in those heats in the tournament.
  *   BU earned a perfect 10 in the 7-Element Acro for the first time at a championship meet in the Semifinal against Augustana.



EVENT FINALS

BU has earned a spot in 14 heats for the Event Finals, taking place on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.



The Bears will compete for the title in 5-, 6- and 7-Element Acro, the Inversion, Synchronized and Open Pyramids, the 450 Salto, Synchronized and Open Tosses, and the Duo, Trio, Quad, 6-Element and Open Tumbling passes.



The top four scores in each heat from Thursday’s quarterfinal round qualified for event finals. Ties were broken utilizing the adjusted average from the regular season, which took out the high and low score from the regular season. At-Large qualifiers were invited based on the highest adjusted average in each heat from teams that did not qualify to compete at the overall championship.



Baylor had the highest score in all but four of the 14 heats it qualified for. Each team will compete in qualifying order and the highest score earns the heat title.
