BRYAN, Texas — Baylor men’s golf finished its regular season with a fifth-place finish at the Aggie Invitational on the heels of a 32-over 896 at Traditions Club.
Redshirt junior Drew Wrightson polished off a solid showing with a tied for 21st, his first top-25 finish since the Gopher Invitational back in September. Wrightson’s 8-over 224 ended up 14 shots behind Texas A&M’s Phichaksn Maichon, who captured individual medalist honors by five shots over Louisiana’s Malan Potgieter.
No. 19 Texas A&M went wire-to-wire to win its home event with a 3-over 867, nine shots in front of second-place No. 6 Oklahoma. BU finished 10 shots behind Louisiana and Sam Houston, who tied for third.
THE RUNDOWN
Wrightson opened with a double-bogey but battled back with birdies at Nos. 4 and 8 to turn at even. He stayed even through No. 12 with a bogey-birdie exchange at Nos. 11 and 12. Wrightson played his final six holes at 5-over with bogeys at Nos. 13, 15 and 18 around a double-bogey at No. 17.
Jonas Appel tied for the Bears’ best score of the day, a 2-over 74 to finish tied for 28th. Following a bogey at No. 1, he battled back to red figures with birdies at Nos. 5 and 6 before bogeys at Nos. 7 and 9 turned him at 1-over. He settled in with eight more pars and a bogey at No. 17 to finish at 10-over.
Davis Ovard also turned in a 2-over 74 on Sunday to finish tied for 28th. A steady start saw him make par on each of the first 10 holes before his first birdie of the day at No. 11. He stayed at 1-under until a double-bogey at No. 17 and a bogey at No. 18 saw him finish the day at 2-over.
Vincent Stjernfeldt closed his week with a 4-over 76 to climb into a tie for 37th. The freshman went out in 3-over after bogeys at Nos. 4, 5 and 9. His first birdie of the day came at No. 10, getting him back to 2-over before two more bogeys at Nos. 15 and 16 dropped him back at 4-over on the day.
Zach Heffernan shot the second-highest round of his career with a 14-over 86 to finish 60th. Sam Dossey tied for 41st as an individual after a 6-over 78 in the final round.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Mike McGraw — “We got off to a tremendous start in the first-round shooting 2-under, but, unfortunately, we were just unable to sustain that success throughout the event. We will work hard this week to put our best foot forward for the Big 12 Championship next week at Southern Hills."
