FORT WORTH, Texas – The Baylor Equestrian team fell in the first meet of the season, 12-8, to No. 3 TCU at KSM Bear Creek Farms.

The Bears (0-1, 0-1) couldn’t catch the Horned Frogs (4-1, 2-0) despite a comeback effort through Flat. TCU took Fences 3-2, Reining 4-1, Horsemanship 3-2 but BU came away with a Flat win, 3-2.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet in Fences, Caroline Muth rode the exhibition ride on Billy for a score of 81.5. Emma Covarrubias scored a 74.5 on Phia, which TCU followed up with a 71 for a Baylor point. Lauren Jorgensen earned a score of 37.5 on Van, bested by TCU’s 82. Madison Mitchell earned a 40 on Java, TCU winning the point with an 84.5. Lauren Reid rode Electric to a score of 80, TCU not being able to match with a 55. Juliette Earley closed out the event for the Bears with an 81.5 on Fats, edged by the Frogs’ 85.5 score. The event ended with TCU ahead, 3-2.

In Reining, Isabella Hehr rode Britney to start the Bears off, scoring a 69.5, bested ever so slightly by the Horned Frogs’ 71.5. Riley Cachat had a score of 71.25 on Smooch, taking the point after TCU had a 68.25 score. Kalena Reynolds started the second half with a 63 on Alfie, TCU getting the point with a 71.5. On Roxie, Sadie Peters had a 66.75, not able to best the Frogs’ 71.25 score. Emily Moomaw brought up the rear in Reining with a 64.5 on Boogie Man, TCU narrowly getting the point with a 66.25. The event concluded with the Horned Frogs up 4-1.

At the half, the Bears were down 7-3 headed into Flat and Horsemanship.

On the Flat, Caroline Robelen started it off with an exhibition ride, scoring a 68.5 on Dover. Jorgensen was the first one out in the pen, scoring a 74 on Lina, which TCU overcame with a 76 for the first point. Reid went next for BU, earning a 76 on Luke. TCU came just shy and scored a 75 for Reid to earn the Bears’ point. Earley came close to topping TCU’s 76 on Lui with a 74 score of her own, but the Frogs got the point. Mitchell came next, earning a 72 on Katie and getting the point for the Bears against TCU’s 66.5. Finalizing the event was Lauren Stebbins, earning a 72 on Gipsy, overtaking the Frogs’ 70.5 for the point. The Bears won the event, 3-2.

In Horsemanship, Gia Pozzi was the exhibition rider, earning a 72.5 on Bob. Taylor Smith earned a 70.25 on Jake but TCU came up with a 72 for the point. Alexis Rutledge had a score of 73.25 on Flash, TCU not being able to match with a 71.75. On Cupid, Anna Thron had a 71.75, just edged by the Horned Frogs’ 72.5 for the point. Nadalee Vasquez’ 69.5 on George was enough to beat out TCU’s 67.75 for the point. On Hector, Carley Rutledge 70.75, TCU winning with a point over her. Baylor scored two points to TCU’s three in Horsemanship to finish the meet, 12-8.

TCU swept the MOP awards with Lilly Goldstein in Fences, Lex Lipacis in Flat, Shea Graham for Horsemanship and Kaylene Cunningham for Reining.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Juliette Earley had the highest Jumping Seat score for the Bears with an 81.5 on Fats in Fences
• Alexis Rutledge’s Horsemanship score of 73.25 on Flash led the Western side as the highest score.
• Riley Cachat, Nadalee Vasquez and Alexis Rutledge were the point-earners for Western.
• For Jumping Seat, Emma Covarrubias, Lauren Reid, Madison Mitchell and Lauren Stebbins earned their points.

The Bears saddle up once again on Oct. 25, facing Oklahoma State on the road in Stillwater with a 12 p.m. CT start time.
