FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 14 Baylor volleyball fell to No. 22 TCU on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.

The Bears (10-4, 2-1) and Horned Frogs (11-3, 3-1) kept it close, but TCU downed BU in four sets, 3-1. The Frogs took the first, 25-23, then Baylor claimed the second, 25-22. The Bears couldn’t come back in the third, 25-16, and despite a clawing comeback attempt, the Bears fell in the fourth, 25-20.

Baylor was led by Elise McGhee with 15 kills and 11 digs, while setter Jackie Barrett Frazier had a double-double of her own with 37 assists and 13 digs. Libero Lauren Briseño led in digs with 17 overall, Manuela Bibinbe leading the block with four.

THE RUNDOWN
Set 1
The Bears got the first point but quickly the two teams started matching each other with kills from Alicia Andrew, Elise McGhee, Kendal Murphy and Allie Sczech, spreading the wealth. Baylor called its first time out with TCU up 11-7, Sczech getting the kill out of the break. Murphy kept trying to help swing momentum, but Frog Melanie Parra had Baylor’s number. She got back-to-back aces to make it 15-9 TCU, McGuyre calling timeout. TCU took three more points before McGhee got a kill off, now 18-10. Parra took a ball from McGhee at 20-12 that threw the Frogs off kilter, putting out three attack errors in a row and calling timeout with the Bears within five, 20-15. McGhee got the kill out of the pause to continue the run. Baylor got six straight before Parra got another good swing to connect with the floor, the run ending at 22-18. Sczech got a kill, followed by an ace from McGhee and a kill from Andrew to prompt another Horned Frog timeout, 22-21. The Bears continued to push, Sczech getting two more kills, but Parra ended the set in TCU’s favor, 25-23.

Set 2
Baylor had a hot start at 4-1, including kills from Sczech and a block alongside Andrew. TCU challenged a play and had it reversed, getting within one quickly and kept it that way. BU up 8-6 with a McGhee kill, Andrew had the solo block. With back-to-back attack errors from the Frogs, TCU called time at 11-7. TCU went on a five-point run and BU called timeout for themselves, now down by one at 12-11. McGhee got redemption with a kill, followed by one from Murphy and an ace from Ulufatu, now up 16-14. Bibinbe got a kill of her own and there were errors from both sides, coming back within one, BU up 19-18. Baylor got down by one, 20-19, and called time, Andrew killing out of it. Sczech tied it at 21-all, then Lauren Briseño served up an ace to go up one again. Murphy pushed it with two kills to make it set point, but TCU staved them off for a point, just for Murphy to finish it out at 25-22.

Set 3
Andrew started the set with a kill but then trading errors, Murphy got the next BU kill at 4-3. Bibinbe got the overpass kill at 5-4, Murphy had an ace at 7-6, and McGhee tied it again at eight-all. Parra and McGhee kept trading points and TCU went up 13-11, BU calling time. Right back at it was McGhee to stop a four-point run. Harley Kreck entered the match and served an ace on her first attempt, tying it at 13-all. The Horned Frogs went up by two but Sczech stopped them and made it 15-all. The teams went back-and-forth, Baylor witnessing a three-point run and calling timeout. TCU continued the run with five more points. McGuyre called in Grace Carroll and Bri Denney to the floor, welcoming back Victoria Davis to the match. TCU took the set, 25-16, finishing on a 9-0 run.

Set 4
Davis got her first kill of the match at 2-1, with Sczech and Murphy swinging to tie it 3-3. BU got down 9-4 and called timeout. McGhee and Bibinbe teamed up for the block to lessen the lead to three, 9-6, but TCU continued their tear, up 13-7 when Baylor called timeout again. Davis got a kill to liven the spirits at 13-8, and McGhee got her next kill at 15-9. Some points were traded, Sczech getting a kill at 17-11. The Bears continued to push and take swings but had trouble finding the floor. Murphy got a kill with a block error from the Frogs, now 19-12. Emelyn Stettin entered the match to serve, her first appearance as a Bear. Bibinbe and Jennifer Bolden combined for a monster block at 19-13. TCU went up to match point, 24-14, but Bolden got a kill to put it off. McGhee kept the movement with a kill of her own, followed by Davis. Now 24-17, TCU called time. McGhee got another kill, 24-18, and the Bears continued to claw and fight. The Bears fended off set point six times but TCU prevailed, winning 25-20 in the fourth.

Highlights
• Bears had four players with double-digit digs (Barrett Frazier, Briseño, McGhee, Murphy)
• McGhee (15) and Sczech (12) finished with double-digit kills
• Both McGhee and Barrett Frazier had double-doubles
• It was only the second road match of the season for BU

The Bears continue their time on the road, heading to face BYU on Oct. 10 and Utah on Oct. 12.
