NORMAN, Okla. – Baylor men’s golfer Johnny Keefer shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday to sit at even-par through two rounds of the NCAA Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin Golf Club.
Keefer is one of just 23 players at even par or better entering the final round, using a back-nine rally to get back to level par.
The junior started with bogeys on two of his first three holes before a second birdie in as many days at the par-5 5th hole. His second birdie of the day came at No. 8 but was sandwiched around a couple of bogeys at Nos. 7 and 9 to card a 2-over 38 on the front nine.
Two more bogeys at Nos. 10 and 12 dropped Keefer to 4-over on the day and 1-over for the championship. From there, the San Antonio native strung together four-straight pars before a birdie at the difficult par-4 17th hole. The 17th is scoring as the most difficult hole this week, playing to a stroke average of 4.46, but Keefer’s birdie was one of just five on Tuesday and 10 for the week.
In all, Keefer played his final six holes at 1-under par to draw closer to advancement. The top individual from a non-advancing team will earn a spot into the NCAA championship at Grayhawk. With the standings as-is, Utah’s Blake Tomlinson would earn that berth at 5-under par. Keefer is one of 11 golfers who are playing as an individual or on a team not inside the top-5 that are within five shots of Tomlinson entering the final round.
HIGHLIGHTS

•      Keefer is tied for the fourth-best par-3 scoring average through two rounds (3.25).
