NORMAN, Okla. – Johnny Keefer will represent Baylor men’s golf as the No. 1 seed at Jimmie Austin Golf Club in the Norman Regional beginning Monday at 9:50 a.m.
The San Antonio native is coming off a stellar season, entering the postseason as the No. 17th ranked individual according to Golfstat, making him the top individual seed at Jimmie Austin Golf Club.
“Johnny has had a really good year thus far,” head coach Mike McGraw said. “I am hoping he can finish it off in good fashion. Jimmie Austin has some length, so it should suit his game fine.”
The junior led the team with a stroke average of 71.38, which currently ranks as the eighth-best single-season stroke average in program history, while setting a new career-best with 16 rounds at par or better. Earlier this season, he shot a school-record 63 in the final round of the Cabo Collegiate, becoming the third player in program history to record a 63 en route to one of his career-high five top-10 finishes this season.
Keefer is just the second individual in program history to compete as an individual in an NCAA postseason event, becoming the first since Cody Paladino, who played in the 2009 NCAA Championship.
Jimmie Austin Golf Club is a par-72 that stretches out over 7,452, making it the longest course Keefer has played this season. It’s slightly longer than Whispering Pines Golf Club, which played at 7,434 yards for the Big 12 Championship.
