WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball has signed transfer forward Caleb Lohner to a Financial Aid Contract, head coach Scott Drew announced Monday.
Lohner, a 6-foot-8, 235-pound forward, has played the last two seasons for BYU, competing in the West Coast Conference, where he averaged 7.0 points and 6.7 rebounds in two seasons with the Cougars.
“We’ve known Caleb and his family since he was a sophomore in high school," Drew said. "We have always known he would be a great fit in our program because of the type of teammate and player he is. He's an outstanding student-athlete that our fans are really going to enjoy cheering for."
A Dallas, Texas native, Lohner played in 27 games with 13 starts as a freshman in 2020-21, where he averaged 7.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks while shooting a career-best 33 percent from three-point-range in 23.8 minutes per game. As a sophomore, he played in 35 games with 31 starts, finishing second on the team with 6.4 rebounds a game to go along with 7.0 points per contest.
The Cougars amassed a 44-18 record during Lohner’s two years in Provo, going 24-11 (9-6) in 2022, including a trip to the quarterfinals of the NIT, where the sophomore chipped in nine points to go along with season highs in rebounds (11) and assists (5) in a 77-58 loss to Washington State. He recorded nine double-figure scoring efforts, highlighted by a career-high 20 against Long Beach State in the opening round of the NIT. He led the team in rebounding 13 times on the year, including six of his seven double-digit rebounding performances, highlighted by a career-high 14 against South Florida.
As a freshman, Lohner and the Cougars went 20-7 (10-3) en route to the NCAA Tournament, where UCLA upended them. In that game, the freshman scored six points and had a team-leading 10 rebounds. On the season, Lohner led the team in rebounds with 7.1 per contest while finishing fourth in scoring (7.0 ppg) with a high-water mark of 19 against Pacific.
Before arriving at BYU, Lohner played at Wasatch Academy in Utah from 2018-20, where he helped lead the Tigers to a 27-2 record and averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals as a senior. During his junior campaign, he averaged 10.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists and helped Wasatch to a 26-3 record with a bid to the GEICO High School Nationals. Lohner played his freshman and sophomore seasons for Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, Texas.
