WACO, Texas – Baylor men's basketball will be one of four teams to play in the 2022 Continental Tire Main Event, which will be held Nov. 18-20 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Bears will open the event against the 2019 National Champion Virginia Cavaliers at 6 p.m. CT on Nov. 18, on ESPN2, followed by UCLA and Illinois at 8:30 p.m. CT, on ESPNU. It will mark just the second meeting all-time between the Bears and Cavaliers and the first since 1968.

The winning teams will meet in the championship game at 2:00 p.m. CT on Nov. 20, while the losing teams will play a consolation game at 4:30 p.m. The four teams have combined for three final fours and two national championships in the last three NCAA Tournaments.

Baylor last played in Las Vegas to open the COVID-delayed 2020-21 season, sweeping a pair of games against Louisiana and Washington to start an 18-game winning streak that eventually led to the program's first national championship. Even without head coach Scott Drew, who was out due to COVID protocols, Baylor won those games by an average of 32 points. Jared Butler led the team, averaging 18.5 points in the two games.

UCLA holds a 3-1 series advantage over BU, with the last meeting coming in 1975. Baylor won its first game in four tries against Illinois when the Bears beat the fifth-ranked Illini at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 82-69, on Dec. 2, 2020, in Indianapolis, Ind. Current senior guard Adam Flagler led the Bears with 18 points in 29 minutes of action in just his third game in green and gold.

BU also announced it would participate in the Big12-Big East Challenge, taking on Marquette at the Fiserv Forum on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022. That game will be followed by a rematch of the 2021 national championship game against Gonzaga at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022. The Bears will also play the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, in a rematch of their meeting in the 2021 Elite Eight, an 82-71 Baylor victory. The full-season schedule will be released at a later date.

The Bears are coming off a promising showing in the inaugural GLOBL Jam, where they came up just short in the championship game against Brazil’s U23 team 77-73. Playing without four of its top players, Baylor was led by freshman Keyonte George, who scored 37 points in a 93-87 semifinal win over team Canada and averaged 22.8 points in the five games.
