Scottsdale, Ariz. – Baylor women’s golf will open its spring season at the Desert Match Play on Saturday at Kierland Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The six BU players will play three nine-hole matches against Texas A&M and The University of Southern California. A point will be awarded to the team that wins each match. Points will also be awarded for a team’s margin of victory in the match.

The event is at Kierland Golf Club, which is just six miles from Grayhawk Golf Club, the home of the 2022 NCAA Championships. Head Coach Jay Goble wants to get his team as many reps with “desert golf” to prepare them for May.
“I think it's important, with the National Championship being in Scottsdale, to go out there and get a feel for what it's like,” Goble said. “It is a little bit different than playing golf in Waco or playing golf anywhere else.”
In addition to Saturday’s match-play event, the team will play Grayhawk on Sunday to get their first look at the championship course.
“I think it's important to see how they play out there and how they feel about the golf course,” he said. “It’s important to just get a feel for the drier air and get a feel for the grass. There's not a better place to get started than heading out to the desert for a couple days.”
The matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. CST on Saturday. Players will be seeded one through six, and the teams will be divided into two pools of three players each.
Florida transfer Addie Baggarly will make her Baylor debut and lead things off in the No. 6 spot, BaiMai Seema will play at No. 5, and Antonia Matte will play at No. 4. They will each play a nine-hole match against the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 players from Texas A&M and USC.
Rose Belsham will play out of the No. 3 spot; Britta Snyder will play at No. 2, and Gurleen Kaur will open her final semester at Baylor in the anchor position. They will each play a nine-hole match against the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 players from A&M and USC.
