Baylor MGOLF in 12th Place After the Second Round of Cabo Collegiate

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Baylor men’s golf shot a 2-under 282 in the second round of the Cabo Collegiate to sit in 12th place with 18 holes to play at the Cove Club.

Johnny Keefer shot his best round of the season, a 4-under 67, and climbed into a tie for 17th place as an individual. Keefer was at 1-over on his round before a torrid finish where he played his final six holes at 5-under par, highlighted by his second eagle of week, at the par-5 fourth hole.

For a second-straight day, Freshman Zach Heffernan recorded an even-par round of 71. After his first-career eagle at the Par-5 13th hole, he finished his front-nine at 2-over par. From there, he finished strong with birdies on three of his next four holes and five-consecutive pars to end the round

Trey Bosco also played well on Monday firing an even-par 71, his new career-best round. His 36-hole total of 143 is now also a career-best, two shots better than his previous low score.

Mark Reppe notched his 14th-straight counted round on Monday with a 2-over 73. He is the only player on the team with 10-or-more rounds that has had every one count towards the team’s score. Reppe is in a tie for 47th individually.

Luke Morgan had his streak of four-straight rounds of par or better snapped in round two after a 3-over 74.

The Bears sit just four shots out of a top-10 entering the final round. Florida State climbed into a tie with Oklahoma State at the top of the leaderboard at 18-under par. Arizona’s Chase Sienkiewicz is the individual leader at 10-under par. Keefer is just three shots back of the top-10 entering Tuesday’s final round.

HIGHLIGHTS

•       The Bears now lead the field with four eagles this week.

•       Baylor's 3.02 scoring average on the par-3's this week is fourth-best in the field.

•       Johnny Keefer is 5-under on the Par 5’s this week, tied for fourth best.

•       Zach Heffernan sets a new 36-hole best score with a 142

•       Trey Bosco set a new career-best 36-hole score with a 143.



STAT OF THE DAY

After not having an eagle entering the Cabo Collegiate, Johnny Keefer has two in two rounds which is tied for the most in the field.

The final round of the Cabo Collegiate will begin with a 9:00 a.m. CT Tuesday morning with a shotgun start. The Bears will start on hole Nos. 10-14 and play alongside Arizona, Stanford and Houston.
