NORMAN, Okla. – Baylor men's golf junior Johnny Keefer has been chosen to play on Team USA in the 2022 Palmer Cup, as announced Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Keefer is the fourth player in program history named to a Palmer Cup team, joining Cooper Dossey (2020), Ryan Baca (2006) and Kyle Jones (2015). Keefer is the eighth player to earn a Palmer Cup selection while competing for head coach Mike McGraw, who captained the Palmer Cup team in 2007. Baylor assistant coach Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen was an assistant for the International Palmer Cup team in 2021. Former Baylor assistant and current Louisville Coach Ryan Blagg was an assistant on the 2018 US team.
The Palmer Cup teams consist of 24 of the country's best men's and women's college golfers. For the first time in BU's history, they will have a men's golfer and a women's golfer on the same Palmer Cup team as BU's Gurleen Kaur was selected as one of 12 women on the US team.
Both the United States and Europe Palmer Cup teams were revealed Tuesday afternoon on Golf Channel. The 2022 Palmer Cup will take place July 1-3, 2022, at Golf Club de Genève in Vandœuvres, Switzerland.
Keefer is ranked 299th nationally in the latest Golfstat Division I player rankings. With two years left to play, the San Antonio native ranks second in career stroke average (71.73), trailing only Jimmy Walker (71.55).
The junior is in the midst of another strong season, ranking sixth in program history in single-season stroke average (71.22), thanks to a team-leading and career-best 14 rounds at par or better in 2021-2022. He shot a school-record 63 earlier this year in the final round of the Cabo Collegiate, becoming the third player in program history to record a 63 en route to one of his career-high five top-10 finishes this season.
Keefer, a 2020 All-American, has added to his stellar match-play record this year, going 4-2-1 in seven matches this season, highlighted by a 3-1-1 mark in the Big 12 Match Play last October.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla., in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top men’s and women’s university/college golfers matching the United States against a team of International players. The Palmer Cup has been played at some of the world’s greatest courses, including The Old Course at St. Andrews, The Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Baltusrol, The Honors Course, and Cherry Hills. Beginning with the 2018 matches at Evian Resort Golf Club, the Arnold Palmer Cup is the only major tournament which features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.

Keefer and the rest of the Baylor golf team will compete in the Big 12 Championship that starts Monday at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
