Men's Golf in Fifth after Opening Round of Maridoe Collegiate Invitational
Mark Reppe and Johnny Keefer pace the Bears on tough-scoring day

THE RUNDOWN
CARROLLTON – Baylor men's golf is in 5th place after shooting a 7-over-par 295 in Monday's opening round of the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at Maridoe Golf Club.

On a day where only seven players in the field broke par, The Bears were led by a pair of veterans in red figures. Johnny Keefer<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10710> came out firing, recording three birdies in his first eight holes on his way to a 1-under 71.

Senior Mark Reppe<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10713> fired a 2-under 34 on the opening nine of his tournament. After a double-bogey at 12 and a bogey at 15, Reppe closed with two birdies in his final three holes to post a 1-under 71.

After three bogeys on his opening nine, junior Luke Dossey<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10707> responded with back-to-back birdies at numbers 10 and 11 on his way to shooting a 2-over 74 on Monday.

Drew Wrightson<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10715> made his collegiate debut shooting a 7-over 79 but closed with a birdie on his final hole of the day. Sophomore Trey Bosco<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10706> is tied for 69th after an 11-over 83.

As a team, the Bears currently sit 3rd among Big 12 teams behind 1st place Oklahoma (+2) and Texas (+6).

HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Junior Johnny Keefer<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10710> is tied for second in the field in par-3 scoring, playing them in 2-under, today.
  *   Senior Mark Reppe<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10713> also had a good day on the par 3's, carrying a stroke average of 2.75 (1-under) through the end of the first round
  *   Reppe is tied for the fifth-most birdies in the field through the first round
  *   Keefer is tied for the ninth-most pars through round one with 13
  *   Reppe and Luke Dossey<https://baylorbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10707> had 12 pars on the day which is tied for 14th-best in the field

Par-3 scoring – As a team, Baylor is leading the field in par-3 scoring, playing them in an average of 2.85 strokes. The Bears are 3-under as a team on par 3's through round one.
