Bears bring in student-athletes from 7 different states

WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics and tumbling and head coach Felecia Mulkey has announced the signing of 14 to the 2022 class.

The 14 newest Bears, who signed on Wednesday’s National Signing Day, come from Florida, Nebraska, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas to join the six-time NCATA National Champions.

“This signing class covers all positions and aspects of the sport,” said coach Mulkey. “We are thrilled at the diverse backgrounds and skill sets that these Bears will bring to the program.

“This class consists of an acrobatic gymnast who specializes in basing, competitive cheerleaders who have competed at the highest level, talented artistic gymnasts and a power tumbler who is currently competing for Team USA at the Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. Needless to say, our future is bright.”

Carleigh Bruno
Bruno, a Harrison City, Pennsylvania, native, signs to Baylor from Penn-Trafford High School. She is a part of Legend Athletics, is 5’11” and will be a base for the Bears. She earned fourth place at the Cheerleading World Championships and was the Pennsylvania state runner-up for school competitive cheer.

Kaitlyn Burns
Burns is 5’4” and will be a base and tumbler for Baylor. She is from Coral Springs, Florida, and will graduate from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. She currently cheers for Cheer Florida. Burns has competed in the Cheerleading World Championships twice and once at the D2 summit.

Gianna Cameron
Cameron, an Ohio native from South Charleston, signs with Baylor from Wayne High School. She is 5’6” and will be a base and tumbler for the Bears. She competed in all-star cheer for 13 years and has been to Cheerleading Worlds several times. Cameron moved from Ohio to Miami her sophomore year to be on the Lady Jags team. Aside from cheer, she is the current school and conference record holder in the 100 and 200m dash. She is also the district and regional champion, and is state champion in the 4x100m relay and is sixth in the nation.

Savanna Cecil
Cecil will be a top and a tumbler for Baylor. The Crossville, Tennessee, native stands 5’3” and will be coming from Christian Academy of the Cumberlands. She currently competes for Premier Athletics and is competing with Team USA as a part of the Trampoline and Tumbling National Team at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. A Senior Elite power tumbler, she was previously named to the USA Gymnastics Senior National Team.

Hannah Hastings
Hastings, an Allen, Texas, native, cheers for Cheer Athletics Panthers. The 5’4” base and tumbler will graduate from Allen High School before joining the Bears. Hastings is a 2018 Cheerleading World Champion.

Charlyze Hemby
Hemby is a San Antonio, Texas, native who attends San Antonio Christian School. The 5’2” top and tumbler was a gymnast and competed for Mavericks Gymnastics before transitioning to cheer at Stars Vipers.

Cassandra Karnbach
Karnbach signs to Baylor from Annapolis, Maryland, and competes for EAGC. She will be a base for the Bears after graduating from Broadneck High School. Karnbach is a specialist as she is an acrobatic gymnast. She competed at the 2021 USA Gymnastics Championships for International Elite MD with Dakota Martin. In addition, in 2021 she won first at Nationals, first place at the Vegas International Acro Cup. Her pair last year were State, Regional and National Champions. Her trio last year was undefeated as well. Her trio in 2018 was awarded most improved and her trio in 2021 was awarded hardest skill in their region.

Vanelda Modé
Modé, a 5’3” base and tumbler, comes to the Bears from Coppell, Texas. She competes for Texas Dreams Gymnastics and will graduate from Coppell High School.

Sophia Neylon
Neylon, a Houston, Texas, native, joins the Baylor program after competing for Woodlands Elite Cheer company. She is a top and a tumbler standing at 5’4”, and will graduate from Episcopal High School. Neylon is a 2021 Cheerleading World Champion.

Kensey Schilhab
Schilhab stands at 6’0” and will be a base for Baylor. She is a native of Pearland, Texas, and will graduate from Pearland High School. She currently competes for Woodlands Elite Black Ops. She is a NCA Champion, a World Championships finalist, and has been top-5 at Summit twice. She has also won cheersport twice.

Novalee Schmit
Schmit, a Lincoln, Neb., native, signs with BU from Lincoln High School. She is a 5’9” base and tumbler and currently competes for Cheer Xpress. Schmit is a five-time Cheerleading World Championships participant as well as earning three letters in cheer. Aside from cheer, she is a three-time State participant in diving, also earning three varsity letters in the sport. Not only that, but she competed in track as well, earning one letter and participating in one State Championships. On top of her sports, she is a Nfinity Generation Next Athlete and Nfinity Athletic Model.

Alyiah Thomas
Thomas signs with the Bears from Moosic, Pennsylvania, and Riverside Jr/Sr High School. The 5’1” top and tumbler currently competes for World Cup Shooting Stars. Thomas was a 2021 Bronze World Champion.

Meredith Wells
Wells, a 5’8” base and tumbler, signs with Baylor from Highland Village, Texas. She will graduate from Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville and competes for Win Kids. Wells previously has earned second place at Nationals for trampoline, is a tumbling State Champion, and earned second place on floor at the State Championships. She also earned first place at the High School Cheer National Championships.

Camryn Yarbrough
Yarbrough inks with BU from La Porte, Texas, and Deer Park High School. The 5’1” top and tumbler currently competes with Woodlands Elite Black Ops. She is a 2021 Cheerleading World Champion, World silver medalist, a three-time Generation Next athlete, and two-time NFinity Legend. In addition, she is a four-time NCA champion and a five-time NCA All-American. She is a Majors Champion and a UCA All-American, as well as an eight-time Individual Tumble Pass Champion and two-time Duo Champion.
