Baylor Track & Field Returns Home to Host Baylor Invitational
Bears will compete at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium for the first time in two years

WACO, Texas – Baylor track & field is set to compete in its first home meet since 2019 as the Bears host the Baylor Invitational Saturday at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.

“We’re excited to be back home, finally,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “It’s been two years. It’s kind of hard to fathom that it’s been that long. There’s been a lot of cleanup. I appreciate everybody getting everything ready. It looks great. We have a great group of teams coming, so we’re excited about the competition. It looks like the weather is going to be nice. We should have a really good day. We’re looking forward to some more outstanding performances to build on our first three outdoor meets.”

With three outdoor meets in the books already in 2021, Baylor enter its first of two home meets ranked No. 11 in the men’s USTFCCCA national ratings index and No. 21 in the women’s rankings.

Individually, the Bears have five men’s athletes and three women’s athletes ranked in the NCAA top 10, with several others looking to move up the list with good performances in front of the home crowd in Waco.

“Every event is different,” Harbour said. “In our sport, there are some venues, some wind conditions, etc., that factor in to whether you’re going to have a big mark or not. It depends on which event you’re in. We should have some more really nice marks Saturday. We’re hoping to have some more NCAA top-10 marks this weekend. That’s what we’ve seen the first couple weeks, and hopefully we’ll continue that.”

Reigning Big 12 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week KC Lightfoot is the No. 1 pole vaulter in the NCAA, while Kamden Jackson (No. 10 - 100 meters), Howard Fields III (No. 7 – 400 meters), the 4x100-meter relay (No. 6) and the 4x400-meter relay (No. 4) are leading the way for the men’s squad early in the season.

On the women’s side, Kavia Francis (No. 10 – 200 meters), the 4x400-meter relay (No. 7) and Tuesdi Tidwell (No. 3) are setting the pace thus far.

Baylor will be competing against ACU, Air Force, Louisiana-Monroe, Oklahoma State, SFA, TCU, Texas Southern and Texas Tech on Saturday. Live results can be found at https://tf.deltatiming.com/baylor/2021-baylor-invitational.
