SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Wil London, Howard Fields III, and Aaliyah Miller advanced to the NCAA Championships with their performances Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships on the campus of California State University, Sacramento.

“We got three through,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “It was pretty much a standard day at the track. We had some good and had some near misses. I’m excited for the ones who made it through and disappointed for the ones that just missed it.”

London and Fields kicked things off with strong runs in the 400 meters, clocking times of 45.11 and 45.97, respectively, to move on to Austin.

“I’m super excited for Wil,” Harbour said. “He ran great. Trey ran a great race - to get out - he was in a fast heat.”

Miller put together her best race of the season in the 800 meters, fighting to the finish in the fast heat and finishing with a time of 2:03.68 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships.

“That was a season best for Aaliyah by almost two seconds,” Harbour said. “That was a great job by her. Leti (De Souza) missed it by less than a tenth of a second. We’re disappointed for her, being a senior. We really wanted her to get through.”

Kennedy Bailey (100-meter hurdles) just missed out on the quarterfinals, and Tuesdi Tidwell (pole vault) came up just short of a trip to Austin.

“Kennedy was solid,” Harbour said. “That was her second-best time in the hurdles. She just missed advancing on to another chance to race tomorrow. Tuesdi was in a tough pole vault competition. She just came up a little bit short today. I know she was disappointed, but she’s just a sophomore so she’ll be back.”

Baylor now has five athletes headed to Austin as London, Fields, and Miller join KC Lightfoot (pole vault) and Jalen Seals (long jump), who advanced Thursday.

The third and final day at Hornet Stadium is Saturday, featuring the Bears’ men’s and women’s 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays as well as Cole Hardan in the men’s shot put, Alex Madlock in the women’s triple jump, and Jalen Seals in the men’s triple jump.

“We have a lot of good going tomorrow,” Harbour said. “Hopefully with all four relays, the triple jump and shot put, we’ll have some more good performances.”
