This reminds me of the amazing way Peter McEnery aged in Clayhanger. Or perhaps (happen?) he “youthened” then aged.

Subject: [Afamilyatwar-list] Confused
At the beginning of Series 2, Sam says he went “down the pit” at age 14 in 1938, which makes him 23 in 1947, where Series 2 begins. Yet the actor Mark McManus (Sam ll) was 38 at the time Series Il began. Isnt a 15-year age gap significant (of course older actors have forever played younger ones—Leslie Howard being a rather too mature Romeo, for all his flair and poetry). Mightn’t there have been a younger actor to assume the role?
I mean no disrespect for the superlative work this series achieved. I’m always interested in the incidental details of casting as it affects the total production.
Thank you all!
