I remember John Savident in the children's ATV series, "Tightrope" in 1972. The series survives as 16mm black and white telerecordings/kinescopes and is out on a Network DVD.

The first time I saw Kenneth Colley was in the Ray Davies', (of The Kinks), musical, "Return to Waterloo" in 1984 playing a none speaking role except, "Return to Waterloo Please" close to the start.

I recorded it on its first transmission on VHS on Channel 4. I looked at it about 10 years ago. It hasn't aged well but the songs are good.

Subject: [Afamilyatwar-list] A Summer Story

Whenever I see John Savident as solicitor George Askew in A FAMILY AT WAR, it makes me think of his wonderful performance in a 1988 film called A SUMMER STORY. Savident has a small but pivotal role in that film, and he brings it off with great flair and humour.

Another wonderful actor who appears in both A FAMILY AT WAR and A SUMMER STORY is Kenneth Colley. You may recall that he was affable Sergeant Jago in the AFAW episode "Two Fathers." (He helps Edwin locate Philip's girlfriend, Erika.) In A SUMMER STORY, he is a farmhand named Jim, who (like John Savident) also plays a critical role in advancing the story line.

I highly recommend A SUMMER STORY, which I consider to be among the finest dramatic films I have ever encountered. This powerful tale of a lost love is sure to tug at your heartstrings and bring a tear to the eye. Its final scene is quite devastating in impact.
