</span></b><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt">Baylor baseball junior right-handed pitcher Mason Marriott has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt">Marriott was fantastic as Baylor’s Opening Day starter on Friday against Nebraska, going 5.2 innings and allowing just one run on one hit with two walks and a career-high 10
strikeouts. The Tomball, Texas, native took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and exited in a 0-0 ballgame, ultimately taking a no-decision. His 10 punchouts were not only a personal best, but also marked the first time since 2010 that a Bear struck out double-digit
batters in an Opening Day start.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt">Marriott cruised through the Huskers’ lineup early, retiring the side in order in four of his first five frames. He worked around a pair of walks in the top of the second to
strand a runner in scoring position, then retired the next 10 he faced, including striking out the side in the top of the fifth just one pitch shy of an immaculate inning.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt">“I’m really proud of Mason and the way he threw the ball,” second-year head coach Mitch Thompson said. “I thought he really competed well for us as a starting pitcher. I thought
he did fantastic. That’s why we threw him on Opening Day. It was good to see him answer the bell, and we’ll be expecting big things from him the rest of the way, no question.”<o:p></o:p></span></p>
