<p class="MsoNormal"><b>WACO, Texas – </b>Baylor Athletics’ academic success was on display again with the recent release of the Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The APR, <span style="color:black;background:white">created to be a more real-time measurement of academic success than graduation rates, is a team-based metric through which scholarship student-athletes each term earn one point for remaining
eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. At schools that don't offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.</span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Eight teams, including men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s tennis, men’s track and field, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s track and field and volleyball registered perfect one-year APR scores of 1,000.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The 2020-21 overall four-year rate for the Bears is 983. The athletic department also boasts a single-year average of 980.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Eight of 15 eligible teams have a multi-year score above the national average for their sport.

<p class="MsoNormal">Baylor also had five sports record a perfect multi-year rate: men’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s cross country, women’s track and field and volleyball.

<p class="MsoNormal">Additionally, football set a 975 multi-year APR mark, which is 11 points above the national average.

<p class="MsoNormal">Among multi-year rates for Power 5 schools in Texas, football, men’s track and field, women’s track and field and men’s golf all rank first in the state, while men’s and women’s cross country and volleyball are tied for first place marks.

<p class="MsoNormal">BU has six programs with the highest or tied for the highest multi-year rate in the Big 12 with men’s cross country (1000), women’s cross country (1000), men’s golf (1000), men’s track and field (997), women’s track and field (1000) and
volleyball (1000). <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black;background:white">No Baylor program has ever been subject to penalty.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">The public announcement of APRs returned after a one-year hiatus. This spring, the Division I Board of Directors approved the continual suspension of APR penalties for an additional year due
to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it supported the public release of the APR data.

<p><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black;background:white">To compete in the 2020-21 postseason, teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR. NCAA members chose the 930 standard because that score predicts, on average, a 50%
graduation rate for teams at that APR level. Additionally, teams must earn at least a 930 four-year APR to avoid penalties.</span><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
