welcomed in the 2021-22 season with a 13-6 victory Friday over No. 10 UT Martin (0-1) at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion in Martin, Tenn.<br>
<br>
The Bears claimed all four individual events on their way to their first season-opening victory since fall 2018. This marks the fifth time since the beginning of the 2019-20 season that BU has swept its opponent on the scoresheet.<br>
<br>
BU got off to a strong start with a 3-2 win in Fences, led by Caroline Fuller’s point-winning score of 84. Savannah Hemby and Madison Mitchell each put up tallies of 80 to win their matchups and give the Bears the edge heading into the next event.<br>
<br>
In Horsemanship, Baylor took four of five possible points behind Elsie Naruszewicz’s strong 76 and Gabrielle Marty’s 75. After two UTM rides went under review, Marley Mainwaring and Nadalee Vasquez each added points to BU’s total. Ellen Schrotenboer tied her
matchup to hold the Skyhawks pointless in the event.<br>
<br>
Following the halftime break, Flat and Reining got underway simultaneously with the Bears holding momentum. BU and UTM traded points through Flat, but Hemby capped things off with an 87 to seal the 3-2 event win. Baylor finished it out on the Western side with
points from Madeline Bomba, Shelby Clausen and Jenna Meimerstorf in Reining.<br>
