10 Big 12 postseason awards amongst seven different players, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.<br>
<br>
Fifth-year senior Charlie Broom was unanimously named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, while third-year sophomore Adrian Boitan and fourth-year junior Matias Soto earned unanimous All-Big 12 Singles First Team recognition.<br>
<br>
Broom joined fellow graduate transfer senior Nick Stachowiak on the All-Big 12 Singles Second Team. Meanwhile, fifth-year senior Constantin Frantzen and fourth-year junior Sven Lah garnered a spot on the All-Big 12 Doubles First Team, and Soto and Stachowiak
were picked to the All-Big 12 Doubles Second Team.<br>
<br>
Additionally, three Bears were crowned individual champions in Boitan (No. 1 singles), Broom (No. 5 singles) and Spencer Furman (No. 6 singles). Boitan is Baylor’s seventh honoree at the top spot, while Broom and Furman are the ninth honorees at their respective
positions.<br>
<br>
With the selections of Boitan, Soto, Broom and Stachowiak, Baylor has had at least one player named to the All-Big 12 Singles Team in each of the 24 years that the league has made selections. There were no All-Big 12 awards last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bears have also had a doubles team earn all-conference honors in 21 of 24 seasons.<br>
<br>
In his first season at Baylor, Broom leads the team with 25 singles victories on the year, including a 22-3 record in dual matches. Playing predominantly at the No. 5 singles spot, Broom has tallied an impressive 18-2 mark. During the conference season, Broom
went 4-1 against Big 12 opponents and was 2-0 at the Big 12 Championship.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:black;letter-spacing:.25pt">Broom is the seventh Bear to be named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and first since 2015. His second-team singles honor is his fourth-career all-conference
singles award, as he was named an All-Ivy League first-teamer three times during his career at Dartmouth.<br>
<br>
Earning his second-career All-Big 12 honor and first first-team recognition, Boitan is currently ranked No. 21 nationally and owns a 17-5 singles record on the year. He has gone 16-4 at the No. 1 position and went 4-1 in conference play. Boitan was named the
Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performer for the second-consecutive season after going 2-0 in the tournament and clinching Baylor’s title-winning victory over Texas.<br>
<br>
Soto picked up his second-straight first-team singles honor with an 18-4 record in 2020-21. He is currently ranked at No. 11 in singles and has previously reached a career-best No. 8 this season. Soto is tied with Boitan for the team lead with nine ranked singles
wins this year.<br>
<br>
Soto also earned his first-career doubles accolade alongside Stachowiak, who earned his third-career all-conference honor after previously being an All-ACC pick in 2018 and 2019 at Duke. The pair have gone 12-1 together on the doubles court this season, with
a 9-1 dual-match record and a 3-0 mark in Big 12 action. The duo is currently ranked the No. 75 team in the nation.
<br>
<br>
In singles, Stachowiak has racked up a 19-7 singles record, including a 12-5 mark in the spring. He surpassed the 200-career win mark between singles and doubles on April 3 at Oklahoma. He is tied with Broom for the team lead with 43 total victories on the
season.<br>
<br>
Frantzen earned his first-career Big 12 honor, while Lah was named to the doubles team for the third season in a row. The No. 9-ranked tandem is 12-7 this year, including a 3-1 mark in Big 12 play and 6-2 tally against ranked foes.<br>
<br>
One of two undefeated players in conference action, Furman went 5-0 at the No. 6 singles spot to earn individual champion status. After grad-transferring from Duke, he has gone 23-3 in singles and carries an 11-match win streak into the NCAA Round of 16.<br>
<br>
No. 1-ranked and second-seeded Baylor (31-4) will face No. 14-ranked and 15th-seeded Ole Miss (14-10) in the NCAA Round of 16 on Monday, May 17, in Orlando, Fla., at Noon CT. The Bears are making their 19th Sweet 16 appearance in program
history.<br>
