WACO, Texas –Baylor Softball is headed back to the NCAA Tournament, as the Bears were selected as a No. 3 seed in the Austin Regional on Sunday evening.

Baylor’s third appearance in the last four years is the program’s 17th overall. BU will open postseason play against Wisconsin on Friday, May 14 at 12:30 p.m., CT., at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin. The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of No. 2 overall seed Texas and fourth-seeded Wagner, with the losing teams meeting in an elimination game.

The Bears own the No. 41 RPI while playing the nation’s 10th-toughest schedule, competing in the No. 2 RPI conference in the country. Baylor faced 21 ranked opponents during the regular season, its most since the 2011 Women’s College World Series team, while tying for the second-most games against Top 25 RPI opponents in the Big 12 with 19. After some anxious moments the last few days, head coach Glenn Moore was excited to see his team’s name show up on the screen on Sunday night.

“There was a huge sense of relief in that room, you could feel it even yesterday at practice,” he said. “There was a tension. Is this our last practice at Getterman? This team is very close. The culture here right now is one of the best I've ever been a part of. When you see kids work for something and set their goals at the beginning of the year to do some things we haven't been able to accomplish, it’s great to see that rewarded. It was pretty emotional for me.”

The Bears faced Wisconsin just twice in program history, with the Badgers taking both meetings, but the teams have not met since 2002. BU has seen Texas twice this season and has a 25-45 all-time mark against the Horns. Baylor and Wagner have never met.

All-Big 12 Defensive Team selection, Brooklyn Carter, continued to shine at the top of the lineup, hitting .323 with 52 hits, 24 stolen bases and a .379 on-base percentage in addition to her strong work in center field. All-Big 12 Freshman Team Honoree finished with a team-high 10 home runs, one of five freshmen in the Glenn Moore era to hit double-digit dingers. Amber Toven anchored the lineup, leading active players with a .351 average and a team-high 47 RBIs.

The Bears are one of seven Big 12 Teams to make the NCAA Tournament field, joining Arizona, Arizona State, UCF, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.

All games in the Austin Regional will be broadcast on ESPN+, with all games heard on 100.3 COOL FM.
