WACO, Texas — Darianna Littlepage-Buggs secured her 1,000th rebound milestone while contributing 10 points and 12 boards, as No. 16 Baylor held off Colorado, 56-52, on Thursday night at Foster Pavilion.
The senior became Baylor's ninth player to reach 1,000 rebounds in a Bear uniform, joining an elite group that includes Suzie Snider Eppers, Sophia Young-Malcolm, Brittney Griner, Kalani Brown, NaLyssa Smith, Nina Davis, Jackie Reiter and Maggie Davis-Stinnett. Littlepage-Buggs also now ranks ninth in program history for career rebounds.
Yuting Deng led all scorers for the third time this season with 13 points, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to close the third quarter that gave Baylor a 39-35 advantage heading into the final period. The sophomore hit 3-of-7 from distance and added a pair of free throws.
Bella Fontleroy contributed 11 points on the night with four free throws, two that sealed the game for BU with two seconds left. Taliah Scott was the final Bear in double-digits, scoring 11 with a pair of three pointers.
Jana Van Gytenbeek dished out seven assists while playing all but four minutes of the game.
Baylor set the tone early, racing out to an 8-2 lead while holding Colorado scoreless over the opening two minutes and forcing the Buffaloes into an 0-for-8 start from the field. A Darianna Littlepage-Buggs jumper off a Colorado turnover pushed the Bears to their largest lead of the first half with just under five minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
Offense was hard to come by for both sides in the second quarter. Baylor managed just five points on 2-of-16 shooting, while Colorado was limited to seven, and the teams went into halftime knotted at 23-all.
Baylor’s defense took control after the break, holding the Buffaloes to 29 second-half points on 9-of-34 shooting.
Colorado made multiple late pushes, however, led by Zyanna Walker, who finished with 16 points. Walker converted a fast-break layup and followed with four free throws to pull the Buffaloes within three with 6:26 remaining.
The Buffaloes had one final chance when Jade Masogayo’s jumper cut the deficit to two with under five seconds to play, but Bella Fontleroy sealed the outcome at the line, knocking down a pair of free throws to secure Baylor’s four-point win.
The Bears are back at Foster Pavilion on Sunday afternoon with a game against the Kansas Jayhawks. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
