IRVING, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis captain Devin Badenhorst has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday, after a standout week at the No. 1 singles position for the Bears.



Ranked No. 13 nationally in singles, Badenhorst delivered two high-level performances against top-20 opponents. The Pretoria, South Africa, native battled No. 10 Sebastian Gorzny of Texas on Feb. 16, forcing a third set in a gritty 4-6, 7-6(4), 1-1 unfinished match at the top singles spot. He followed that effort with a statement win over No. 17 DK Suresh of Wake Forest, earning a dominant 6-1, 6-4 victory on Feb. 22. Badenhorst defeated Suresh twice in a span of a week.



For the season, the junior holds a 9-5 singles record, including a 4-3 dual match singles record, playing all seven dual matches at Court One. Against nationally ranked opponents this spring, Badenhorst has been clutch with a 3-0 record.

Badenhorst and No. 6 Baylor travel to Champaign, Ill. to face No. 36 Illinois on the road on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. CT.
