LUBBOCK, Texas – Baylor softball battled No. 2 Texas Tech in a tight contest through five innings on Thursday before the Red Raiders pulled away for the 5-0 win at Tracy Sellers Field.
Leah Cran tallied Baylor’s only hit on the night, as the Bears leaned on another strong outing from Peyton Tanner, who kept a potent Red Raider offense in check early and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.
Jasmyn Burns gave Tech all the breathing room they needed with a three-run blast in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
RUNDOWN
Texas Tech threatened throughout the early innings, but Tanner repeatedly worked out of trouble to keep the Bears within striking distance.
Abi Flores erased the league’s top base stealer, Mihyia Davis, in the top of the first, while Faith Piper cut down a run at the plate in the second, thwarting a double-steal attempt by Tech.
Tanner navigated Tech traffic throughout the first four frames, allowing a run in the second on a sac fly and another in the fourth, but otherwise preventing a big inning by the high-powered Red Raiders.
Texas Tech would break through in the sixth. After putting runners aboard, Burns connected on a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 5-0 and create all the separation Tech needed.
