BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In their final tuneup before the Big 12 Championship, Baylor All-Americans Tiriah Kelley, Molly Haywood and Demario Prince will compete in the Texas Alumni Muster that begins Friday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Ranked sixth in the nation in the 200 meters with a time of 22.51, Kelley will compete in the 100, while Prince will add the 200 meters to the 110-meter hurdles where he’s ranked eighth. Haywood, sixth nationally in the pole vault with a mark of 14-10 ¼, will be joined by teammates Tenly Kuhn, Alencia Lentz and Lillianna Ifft for the pole vault.
“We’re going to take a good group – last hurrah before Big 12s and final exams,” Baylor coach Michael Ford said. “I’m looking forward to getting some last qualifiers for regionals and help some kids that need another opportunity to get ready for Big 12.”
Baylor is coming off a weekend that saw the Bears win seven event titles at the Michael Johnson Invitational and sophomore Logan Todorovich break the school record in the heptathlon at Louisville’s Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational.
The women’s team moved up to No. 16 nationally after getting wins at the Michael Johnson in the 200 meters (Kelley), pole vault (Haywood), long jump (Janae De Gannes), 1,500 meters (Ruth Kimeli) and 4x400 relay with Kelley, Success Oyibu, Alyssa Jones and Serafima Lucero.
Haywood led a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault with Kuhn and Lentz and moved up to a tie for sixth nationally with Kuhn at 14-10 ¼.
Bronze medalist in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Prince won the 110-meter hurdles at the MJ with a time of 13.47 that ranks 13th nationally. The men’s team’s other win came in the 4x400 relay with Aren Spencer, Malik Franklin, Bailey Hashmi and Tyler Honeyman running a time of 3:05.74.
Baylor’s only event on Friday is the 5,000 meters, with Ella Perry competing for the women and Jack Sterrett, Nolan Keenan, Caden Biltz, Straton Miller and Caleb McCarver in the men’s race.
Saturday’s action begins with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 2:15 p.m. Live results are available at flashresults.com.
