WACO, Texas – Baylor softball fell 10-3 to No. 11 Texas A&M on Tuesday night at Getterman Stadium in a game between old Big 12 rivals.

The Aggies used a six-run first inning to seize early control, forcing Baylor to play from behind throughout the night.

The Bears answered with a couple of big hits and some clutch innings from Peyton Tanner, who steadied the ship to give the Bears a chance, but A&M plated four more across the final three frames to seal the win.

RUNDOWN
Texas A&M wasted no time, erupting for six runs in the top of the first inning on four hits while capitalizing on a Baylor error and a passed ball to seize early control. A two-run home run from KK Dement highlighted the inning as the Aggies built a 6-0 advantage.

Baylor answered in the bottom half with a quick spark. Sa’Mya Jones smoked a double off the wall in center before Kaygen Marshall launched a two-run home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 6-2.

The Bears trimmed the margin further in the third inning when Brooklyn Carter singled and moved into scoring position before Marshall added a sacrifice fly to bring Baylor within 6-3.

Texas A&M added a solo home run in the fifth to extend its lead, and then broke the game open in the seventh with three more runs on three hits to push it to 10-3.

Baylor threatened in the middle innings, collecting nine hits on the night, but was unable to string together enough offense to close the gap against the Aggie pitching staff.

QUOTABLE
Baylor Head Coach Glenn Moore on the team’s performance — “I'm not disappointed in the way we played, with the exception of that six spot that we put up. You can't put up six against anybody and expect to win. We did some good things throughout the game, but that [six-run first inning] is probably the difference in the game, to be honest with you.”

Moore on Peyton Tanner’s steadying presence in the circle — “I thought she disrupted their timing. When you see a powerful offense like that, the way you beat it is by disrupting their timing. Her changeup was on, her off-speed was on, and she really had them out on their front foot. I thought she did an outstanding job there. Coach Newman called a great game with her, and she had thrown enough, so we got her out of there. No other reason. She had more gas in her tank, but we got bigger fish to fry for us this weekend.”
