No. 11 Baylor MT Stretches Win Streak to Eight in Hub City, 4-0

LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 11 Baylor men’s tennis protected its win streak by winning the match against No. 70 Texas Tech on Thursday night.



Baylor (18-7) found a win against the Red Raiders in a 4-0 sweep on the road in Lubbock. This is Baylor’s eight straight win. The Bears are nearing Big 12 regular play with a 6-1 record, looking to continue their win streak through the end of the season.



THE RUNDOWN

Doubles started with Tech starting strong with Niksa Arsic and Thiago Guglieri defeating Alexandru Chirita and Zsombor Velcz, 6-3. Devin Badenhorst and Calvin Baierl responded by beating their opponents 6-3. All eyes turned to Court Two where Connor Van Schalkwyk and Luc Koenig battled against Tyler Stewart and Sebastian Abboud for the doubles point.



After a competitive tie break, Van Schalkwyk and Koenig came out on top with a final score of 7-6(3), earning the first point for the Bears.



Moving into singles, the Bears stayed on top of Tech, winning the first sets on five courts. Koenig won the second point for BU by defeating Guglieri 6-4, 6-3. Van Schalkwyk followed closely behind to give Baylor its third point, taking Court Three 6-3, 6-4.



Velcz won the final point for the Green and Gold, defeating Stewart 6-4, 6-3.



WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears will be back in Waco for a double header on Sunday against No. 4 TCU at 1:00 p.m. CT for their Senior Day, followed by UTGRV at 6:00 p.m. CT.
