TEXAS RELAYS RESULTS<https://live.athletic.net/meets/65663>
AUSTIN, Texas – Baylor track and field closed out the Texas Relays on Saturday, with the women’s 4x200-meter relay setting a program record, Molly Haywood remaining unbeaten outdoors and the men’s and women’s 4x400 relays both recording season bests.
Beating the previous record by almost two-tenths of a second, freshmen Success Oyibu and Alyssa Jones ran the opening two legs in the 4x200, followed by sophomore Royaltee Brown and senior All-American anchor Tiriah Kelley as the Bears won the event in 1:31.58.
Running in the faster of two heats, the Bears easily bested former Big 12-rival Texas (1:33.28) head-to-head and broke the previous record of 1:31.77 set by Bria Bullard, Mariah Ayers, Kavia Francis and Imaobong Uko at the 2023 Texas Relays.
Baylor also got an event title from junior pole vaulter Molly Haywood, who remained unbeaten outdoors when she cleared 14-7 ¼ on her final attempt to beat three-time Canadian Olympian Anicka Newell in the elite division. Senior Tenly Kuhn, the runner-up to Haywood at last week’s Clyde Hart Classic, was fifth in 13-9 ¼.
After advancing through the prelims on Friday, both the men’s and women’s 4x100 relays placed sixth. While the men’s team of Austen Diggs, Laurenz Colbert, Ricquan Graham and Brian Limage ran a season-best time of 39.62, the women’s crew of Brown, Hannah Lowe, Jada Edwards and Oyibu were just off theirs at 44.39.
The men’s 4x200 relay of Diggs, Colbert, Bailey Hashmi and Abbas Ali ran a time of 1:22.78 to finish as the runner-up behind Houston (1:22.48) in a down-to-the-wire finish.
Closing out the four-day meet in the Cleburne Price and Sanya Richards-Ross 4x400 relays, the men’s quartet of Malik Franklin, Ali, Aren Spencer and Tyler Honeyman ran a season-best time of 3:07.86 to finish fifth, while Kelley and Jones teamed with Sima Lucero and Aaryona Kinchen to lower their season best to 3:36.13.
In the Section A high jump, junior Sydney Smith placed sixth with a mark of 5-7. Freshman Landon Freeman failed to clear a height in the men’s Section A high jump.
Competing in the 5,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, Baylor junior Ruth Kimeli was seventh in her section in a time of 15:45.17 that ranks fourth on the program’s all-time list behind only Annamaria Kostarellis (15:39.16), Rachel Johnson (15:39.42) and Maggie Montoya (15:44.52).
Next up for the Bears is the one-day Baylor Invitational on Friday, April 10, at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
