WACO, Texas – No. 8 Baylor equestrian fell to No. 1 Georgia at the UGA Equestrian Complex on Friday, 17-3.



The Bears (0-1) couldn’t catch a break against the Bulldogs (1-0), with UGA winning each event.



THE RUNDOWN

Starting the meet in Fences, Morgan McCarthy’s 70 was eventually upended by UGA’s Tessa Brown’s 82.  MOP Lauren Reid would earn the sole point for BU in the event with an 89 over the Bulldogs’ 84. Juliette Earley earned a 70 but fell to Georgia’s 81. Lauren Jorgensen went up against an 87 but came up just short with an 84. Emma Covarrubias’ 74 was not enough to best the Bulldogs’ 88. Overall, the Bulldogs took the event, 4-1.



In Horsemanship, Carley Rutledge scored a 70 against UGA’s 74.5, Georgia’s point. Addisyn Albers earned a 68.5 to UGA’s 74.5. Olive Holm garnered a 70.5 score that was ultimately bested by Georgia’s 75 for a Bulldog point. Anna Thron scored a 68.5 to UGA’s 71.5 and Taylor Smith earned a 70.5 against Georgia’s 73.5. The Bulldogs won the event 5-0.



At the half, the Bears were down 9-1 heading into Flat and Reining.



To start Flat, Jorgensen earned a 52, but wasn’t able to top UGA’s 63. McCarthy garnered an 88 over Georgia’s 67 to earn BU’s second point of the day. Caroline Robelen’s 49 was unable to upend Georgia’s 59. Earley put up a score of 59, but it wasn’t enough to top Georgia’s 63. Finishing up the event, Reid, the MOP of the event, went up against Georgia’s 77 and earned the green and gold a point with a score of 87. The Bulldogs took Flat 3-2.



In Reining, Riley Cachat scored a 66.5 to Georgia’s 71.5. Isabella Hehr rode against a 71 but would come one point short with a 70. Britt McIlnay fell to Avery Taylor 69.5-67. Kalena Reynolds would come up short against Georgia by half a point, scoring a 68.5 to UGA’s 69. Sadie Peters and Georgia’s Raegan Shepherd would compete in a re-ride with UGA earning the point 69.5-68.5. Overall, Georgia won the event 5-0 and took the meet 17-3.

BU travels to Alabama to face the Auburn Tigers tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Auburn University Equestrian Center. Live stats are available online, with the meet being streamed on SEC Network Plus.
