CARLSBAD, Calif. — Baylor women’s golf finished 30th at the NCAA championship on Sunday, shooting a 47-over 911 to close out the 2024-25 season.
BU’s BaiMai Seema finished her career with another solid showing at La Costa, finishing tied for 63rd with a 7-over 223, three shots out of advancing as an individual to Monday’s final stroke-play round.
Stanford enters Monday running away with the team title, shooting a 23-under 841, 15 shots in front of second-place Northwestern. Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin leads by a shot over Paula Martìn Sampedro.
THE RUNDOWN
Seema spent her day within striking distance of the individual cutline, starting with four straight pars. The senior bounced back from her first bogey of the day with a birdie at No. 15 to turn with an even-par 36. She opened her inward half with five pars but suffered back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 6 and 7 before closing with a birdie at No. 8 and a bogey at No. 9.
Malena Castro carded her best round of the week with a 2-over 74 and a tie for 91st. Reaching 1-under with a birdie at No. 15, she closed the front nine with a double-bogey at No. 16 and a bogey at No. 18 to turn at 2-over. A second birdie started her inward half but was followed by a double bogey at No. 2. Two more birdies at Nos. 6 and 9 surrounded a bogey at No. 7 to close out her second nine.
Ashleen Kaur shot a steady opening nine with just two blemishes in the form of bogeys at Nos. 12 and 14. Making the turn at 2-over, the sophomore carded her first birdie of the day at No. 1 to claw back to 1-over. Six straight pars preceded a bogey-par finish to cap her NCAA Championship with a 2-over 74 and a tie for 91st.
Silje Ohma tied for 143rd after a 10-over 82 on Sunday. A double bogey at No. 13 was surrounded by bogeys at Nos. 10, 11 and 18 as she made the turn at 5-over. She added two more doubles at Nos. 3 and 9 with a bogey at No. 7 on the inward half.
Bridget Boczar struggled to a 12-over 84 and a tie for 146th in her NCAA championship debut. She played her first 15 holes at 14-over but finished strong with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 8 and 9.
STAT OF THE DAY
87.5% — BU has appeared in 87.5% of the NCAA Championships played since 2017 (7 of the last 8)
QUOTABLE
Head coach Jay Goble — "Obviously, this was not the way we wanted to finish our season, but you never take for granted what it takes to get here and the privilege it is to play in the NCAA Championship. This program is one of only a handful in the country that have been out here seven times in the last eight seasons, and that is something we absolutely hang our hat on. It stings a little bit at the moment, but I could not be prouder of what this group overcame to get to this point and earn their way here. It’s obviously going to hurt losing BaiMai and everything she has done for us over the last four seasons, but I really like the core we have coming back. I can't wait to get back to work and do everything we can to get back here next season."
