WACO, Texas – No. 22 Baylor women’s tennis was swept, 4-0, by the 26th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon at the Hurd Tennis Center

Baylor (16-4, 7-3 Big 12) dropped doubles point for just the sixth time this season and took losses at the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 courts in singles play.

THE RUNDOWN

Oklahoma State struck first and quickly in doubles play with an upset win as No. 39 Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp rolled to a 6-1 win over No. 24 Liubov Kostenko and Cristina Tiglea. At Court Two, Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez took the win over Sierra Berry and Na Dong to clinch the doubles point.

Moving into singles with the Cowgirls up 1-0, BU fought off multiple OSU threats, as Nanaka Sato and Zuzanna Kubacha each were battling through third sets when the match was completed and individual matchups were left abandoned. Na Dong completed her first set win and was a game away from pushing to a third set.

Scoring first, Court One was claimed by Melisa Ercan, 6-0, 7-5, over Kostenko, while Court No. 2 went the way of the orange and black with No. 81 Komar fighting off Tiglea, 6-4, 7-5.

The match ended with a 6-4, 7-5 decision as 58th-ranked Gracie Epps beat Gibbs, 6-4, 7-5.

QUOTABLE

Head Coach Joey Scrivano

On today’s match…

“We just didn't have a great start in doubles. We just found a way to underperform on the big points and I think that set the tone for the entire match. I think that was the overall theme, on the bigger points, we just didn't play. We didn't execute what we needed to do on the big points and that makes a difference huge difference.”

WHAT’S NEXT

No. 22 Baylor is back on the road through the desert, facing Arizona on Friday in Tucson and Arizona State on Sunday in Tempe.
