WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball fell in the championship matchup of the Baylor Invitational against California Baptist, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.



THE RUNDOWN

The Bears started off strong when Leah Cran continued her hot hitting streak with a leadoff single in the top of the first inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved Cran to third, A single from freshman Karynton Dawson plated the Bears’ lone run of the game.



After only allowing two CBU baserunners through the first two innings, Baylor threatened again in the top of the third when Brooklyn Carter and Shaylon Govan executed a double steal to have runners standing on second and third, but no runs would come around to score.



Scoring the tying run in the bottom of the third, the Lancers got two on and in scoring position before a single up the middle plated one run.



After a quiet fourth inning for both teams, CBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning after an intentional walk to give the Bears the force out, but reliever Lillie Walker recorded the inning-ending strikeout to end the threat.



Govan walked in the sixth inning and Amber Toven and Ashlyn Wachtendorf singled in the top of the seventh, but no more Baylor runs would come around to score.



The Lancers walked off the Bears in the bottom of the seventh when a two-out error put a runner on first and advanced to second on a stolen base. CBU notched the game winning single off the wall in left center to bring home their second run and secure the win.



HIGHLIGHTS

  *   Five different Bears recorded a hit
  *   Karynton Dawson notched the Bears’ only RBI
  *   Shaylon Govan recorded two walks, putting her tied at fourth place in career-walks at Baylor with 106
  *   Dawson and Leah Cran are both on a five-game hit streak
  *   Govan has extended her on-base streak to 10 games
  *   Lillie Walker picked up three strikeouts in the circle bringing her season total to 20
  *   Walker didn’t allow an earned run during the Baylor Invitational



UP NEXT

The Bears will face No. 1 Texas in their first midweek bout of the season on Wednesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Austin, Texas.
