TULSA, Okla. – Baylor men’s tennis wrapped up its time at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Two pairs of doubles partners left Tulsa with bids to the NCAA Individual Championships that will be hosted in Waco in November.<https://baylorbears.com/news/2024/9/17/mens-tennis-tickets-for-2024-ncaa-singles-and-doubles-championships-available-now.aspx>



Overall, Baylor went 11-10 in singles and 16-10 in doubles over nine days in Tulsa. Marko Miladinovic and Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, who earned main draw bids this past summer at the ITA National Summer Championships<https://baylorbears.com/news/2024/8/13/mens-tennis-mt-duo-wins-ita-doubles-national-summer-championships.aspx>, put the Bears on the map as they finished as finalists in the doubles draws. Overall, the two went 4-1 and earned four ranked wins including a win over Clemson’s No. 5 Smith/Vukadin 7-6(2), 6(7)-7, 10-6.



THE RUNDOWN

Six Bears competed in Tulsa over the nine-day span. The Cinderella story of the week came from Miladinovic, who competed in 12 total matches between singles and doubles, going 5-2 in singles and 4-1 in doubles. Miladinovic began in the pre-qualifying draw of singles and was one of five athletes that made the run to the main draw.  The Belgrade, Serbia, native clinched two ranked singles wins to continue his streak. In doubles, the dynamic duo of Miladinovic and Brostrom Poulsen proves to be a success as they became the first Bears to make it to the All-American doubles final since 2018.



Doubles pair of Devin Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz also found success over the week. Badenhorst and Velcz began in the qualifying draw and went 4-2 on the week together. The No. 26 preseason ranked pair grabbed four ranked wins before falling in the semifinals. Baylor was the only school that had two doubles pairs advance past the quarterfinals, resulting in both duos of Badenhorst/Velcz and Miladinovic/Brostrom Poulsen earning NCAA Individual Championship bids.



Badenhorst and Velcz both went 2-2 in singles over the week.



More Bears that made appearances in Tulsa were Louis Bowden and Luc Koenig. Koenig earned his first win of the season in the singles prequalifying consolation draw. The pair together went 0-2 in doubles in the prequalifying draw.



Over in San Diego, Imran Daniel Hazli, Luis Jose Nakamine, Quintan Van Wijk and Arman Zamani all competed in the ITA 67th Collegiate Invitational hosted by San Diego University. Nakamine made his official collegiate debut, going 1-4 in singles and 0-1 in doubles, being paired with Imran Daniel Hazli. Nakamine’s first collegiate win came over UC San Diego’s Zachary Peelouchoud 6-0, 6-4.



Freshman Daniel Hazli went 2-3 in singles while Arman Zamani went 2-1. Zamani paired with Quintan Van Wijk in doubles and went 0-1.



WHAT’S NEXT

Back at home, Baylor prepares to host the Big 12/SEC Challenge at the Hurd Tennis Center Oct. 4-6.
