WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis opened its fall season over the weekend from September 13-15 by hosting the Waco Fall Kickoff Classic at the Waco Regional Tennis Center. Athletes from eight teams across the south came to face off against Baylor, with four Bears in competition.

Louis Bowden, Imran Daniel Hazli, Marko Miladinovic and Quintan Van Wijk all saw action over the weekend for the Bears, going 5-4 in singles and 1-3 in doubles.

“We won some and we lost some this weekend, but the professional nature in which we competed was very representative of the green behavior we are all striving for as part of this team throughout this season,” head coach Michael Woodson said. “The guys at the Waco Regional owned their role this weekend, inviting the tough stuff and being coachable throughout. This was exactly the start we were looking for.”

THE RUNDOWN

Marko Miladinovic heated up throughout his singles competitions, going 2-1 and making it to the finals in his bracket. Miladinovic defeated Rahul Sachdev of Texas, 6-1, 6-3, and followed with another win against UTSA’s Danijal Muminovic, 6-1, 6-1. In the finals, Miladinovic put up a battle against TCU’s Kaj Quirijns, but fell 7(8)-6(6), 6-3.

Quintan Van Wijk and Imran Daniel Hazli both made their Baylor debuts. Van Wijk, a junior transfer from Nebraska-Omaha, went 2-1 on the weekend in singles. Van Wijk secured hard-fought victories over opponents from LSU, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, and TCU, 7(8)-6(6), 6-3.

Daniel Hazli, making his collegiate debut as a freshman, went 1-1 in singles. Daniel Hazli secured his first collegiate win against Gus Tettable of Tulsa, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Louis Bowden went 0-1 in singles, falling to Niksa Arsic of Texas Tech in three sets, before withdrawing from the tournament due to injury.

In doubles, pair Miladinovic and Van Wijk went 1-2, defeating LSU duo Jamie Diack/Charles Hobbs 6-4. Duo Daniel Hazli and Bowden went 0-1 on the weekend.
