THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas – Baylor soccer recorded a 2-2 draw against Texas State Sunday night at Betty Lou Mays Field after a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay.

Baylor’s Alysiah Lockette took the first shot of the match, but it was all Texas State with two corners an a shot on goal in the next eight minutes. It was Tyler Isgrig that put three shots up in the first half, putting two on goal to give Baylor its best chances.

After going into halftime with a 0-0 draw, it was Texas State who found the back of the net first in the 54th minute to go up 1-0. Baylor responded less than two minutes later when Isgrig netted her third goal of the season off of an assist from Ashley Merrill in the 56th minute.

Baylor followed up the goal with three-straight shots, two of them on goal to try and find the advantage, but that wouldn’t come until the 71st minute. Kai Hayes found the back of the net for the first time in her career in the second 45 after Natalie Vatter fed her the ball from a free kick and gave Baylor the 2-1 lead.

The Bears were able to create four more close chances through the next 15 minutes, including a shot from Salma Simonin that went off the left post, barely missing her first goal of the season.

It was Texas State who got the last look of the game when they netted the equalizer with 11 seconds left on the clock to end the game with a 2-2 draw.

QUOTABLE
Head coach Michelle Lenard on the game …
“Slow start in the first half as far as creating opportunities go, but I thought we had a great start to the second half. We missed some early opportunities which is why we're in the situation that we were in at the end of the game. We had early opportunities to put that team away early, if we do that it's a totally different game. We finally got the goals we needed but it just comes down to opportunities we're given."
WHAT'S NEXT
Up next, the Bears will return to conference play against Arizona, Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. CT at Betty Lou Mays Field.
