THE RUNDOWN
DALLAS, Texas – Baylor soccer took down SMU, 2-1, Thursday night at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.

The Bears almost jumped out to an early lead against the Mustangs with Theresa McCullough finding the back of the net in the 7th minute, but the offside flag came up and erased the goal.

After Ashley Merrill took the Bears’ second shot of the match, SMU scored first as they netted a goal in the 12th minute to go up 1-0.

Tyler Isgrig recorded back-to-back shots on goal in the 14th and 15th minutes but SMU’s goalkeeper came up with two saves. Putting two more shots on goal in the first half were Callie Conrad and Alysiah Lockette but the Bears couldn’t find the equalizer in the first 45.

To get things started in the second half, Baylor fired off four shots and had three corner kicks in a five minute span, before finding the back of the net to make it a 1-1 match. Hallie Augustyn fired off a shot for her second goal of the season off of an assist from Isgrig to tie the match in the 56th minute.

BU’s goalkeeper Azul Alvarez was only tested once in goal in the second half, limiting the Mustangs to just five shots.

Baylor found the advantage in the 78th minute when Isgrig netted her second goal in as many games with an assist from Adriana Merriam and Merrill, to go up 2-1 on the Mustangs.

The Bears were able to hold off SMU to take the road win and extend its win streak to five straight.
