WACO, Texas – Three Baylor men’s tennis athletes have been selected to represent the Big 12 Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championship, which takes place in Rome, Georgia November 7-10 at the Rome Tennis Center.

In singles, Zsombor Velcz was chosen and doubles duo of Luc Koenig and Imran Daniel Hazli was voted for the double’s selection. The automatic qualifiers were selected from a pool of nominees by the league's head coaches, who could not vote for their own nominees.

Velcz is in his junior year with Baylor, coming in with a preseason rank of No. 49 in singles. Through the fall season, Velcz has recorded a 9-4 record, including a 5-1 record against nationally ranked opponents. At the ITA Texas Regionals, Velcz made it to the semifinals in the main draw before falling to Texas’ Timo Legout. To claim the third place spot in Regionals, Velcz took down No. 17 JC Roddick of Texas A&M in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

The duo of Koenig and Daniel Hazli proved to have success with their first time playing together being at the ITA Texas Regionals. The pair went on a four-win run before falling in the finals to Texas. In the process, the two took down No. 57 ranked Arthus De La Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi of Rice, 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 in the semifinals to claim their finalist spot.

ABOUT THE ITA CONFERENCE MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2024 ITA Conference Masters Championship will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: 32) (Doubles: 32). From this, four players (4) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists). Meanwhile, three doubles teams (3) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Conference Masters (champion, finalist, third place).

The ITA Conference Masters Championships are one of four qualifying tournaments that will seed the field for the NCAA Individual Championships, joining the ITA All-American Championships (10 singles, four doubles), the ITA Regional Championships (26 singles, 13 doubles), and the ITA Sectional Qualifiers (24 singles, 12 doubles). All told, 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will vie for the NCAA Individual Championships, being hosted by Baylor
