Baylor MT to Host ITA Texas Regionals

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis welcomes 110 athletes from across Texas for the ITA DI Texas Regionals at the Hurd Tennis Center from Thursday to Tuesday.



The Bears will join Division I programs from across the state to compete for the regional singles and doubles titles. The finalists in singles play and the doubles champions will earn a spot in November's NCAA Individual Championships held at home in Waco.



“Excited to host Regionals this year,” head coach Michael Woodson said. “Obviously, we’ve got a lot of big tournaments coming so it’s good to be able host something like this with a lot of student athletes coming in from around the state of Texas. I think we have the best regional in the country level-wise and qualify of student athletes. Being centrally located and having such a great staff to help us run it is always fun.



“It’s a huge advantage for our guys to play at home, but I think for our entire region to be able to participate on the surface they’re going to be playing NCAAs on in the next month is really valuable too. We’re excited to get it going tomorrow. Should be a huge tournament and excited to see Texas’ best.”



All 11 Bears will be competing at this year’s regional with two rounds of qualifying singles opening on Thursday, while the main draw of singles and doubles commences on Friday.



Luis Jose Nakamine and Arman Zamani will begin in the qualifying singles draw tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.



Admission to the Hurd Tennis Center is free all week. Results and updated draws will be posted at the conclusion of each match on the tournament website<https://colleges.wearecollegetennis.com/Competitions/ITA/Tournaments/draws/EBF1DCD6-D1AF-41F9-915D-AC88398DEE7E>.
