WACO, Texas – Baylor Softball defeated Houston, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium to conclude its regular season schedule.
THE RUNDOWN
The Cougars threatened early in game one after the leadoff batter reached on an error before runners advanced to second and third on a double steal, but the Bears worked out of the jam.
Shaylon Govan was intentionally walked in the first but that would be it for the Bears as no runs came home.
Baylor’s Aliyah Binford singled in the second before stealing second and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, but BU wasn’t able to bring her home.
The Bears got the scoring started in the bottom of the third after Emily Hott and Presleigh Pilon hit back-to-back one-out singles to put two on for Govan. After Govan drew her sixth intentional walk of the series to load the bases, Ana Watson hit a bases-clearing double to righter-center field to put the Bears up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Pilon and Govan drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning before Sydney Collazos was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kaci West then singled up the middle to bring a run home and extend the Bears’ lead to 4-0.
Keeping the Cougars off the board again in the top of the sixth the Bears added two runs to their lead in the bottom half of the inning. After Taylor Strain walked, Hott recorded her sixth triple of the season to bring home Strain from first. Hott later came home on a wild pitch that made it a 6-0 ballgame.
After allowing a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, BU retired the next three batters in order to secure the series sweep.
