Bears deliver 19-point defeat to the Gaels

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated No. 15 Iona on Sunday, 272.880 to 253.460, at the Hynes Center to kick off the New York road trip for the Bears.

The Bears (4-0) defeated the Gaels (2-1) by 19.42 points for the win.

It was the first meeting between the programs as Iona is in its inaugural season.

The Bears increase their winning streak to 31 meets, dating back to March 27, 2021.

THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 37.95. A score of 9.5 was garnered in Acro, 9.8 in Pyramid, 9.9 in Toss and an 8.75 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 37.95 to Iona’s 36.05 score.

Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.80 in Heat 1, 9.65 in Heat 2 and 9.50 in Heat 3 of Acro to total 28.95 for the event. The Gaels had scores of 9.20, 8.70, and 9.10 respectively, for a total of 27.00. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 66.90 to Iona’s 63.05.

In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.8 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.95, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.85. With the event scoring a 29.60, the running total was updated to 96.50 for Baylor. Iona totaled 29.00 for the event and had a score of 92.05 going into halftime, the Bears up by 4.45 points.

In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.70, 9.05 and 9.30, respectively, to total 28.05 for the event. The Gaels scored an 8.85, 8.25 and 8.55, respectively, to total 25.65. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 124.550 to the Gaels’ 117.700.

In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with Emily Bott (FR) and Kristen McCain (SR) scored a 9.50. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2), Payton Washington, Rakel Jeffries and Aliyah Kaloostian scored an 8.85. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Aliyah Thomas, Charlyze Hemby, Dailyn Hopkins, and Emi Nelson score an 8.35. The Aerial pass from Bott earned a 9.85, Washington in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.925, and McCain in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.825. The Bears’ total came to 56.300 for the event, while the Gaels scored a 52.50. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 180.85 to 170.20 from Iona.

In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 92.03 while Iona earned an 83.26, bringing the meet score to a total of 272.880 to 253.460, BU taking the win.

  *   BU outscored Iona by 19.42-points overall for the first program win against the Gaels
  *   Pyramid heat two had the highest score of the meet with a 9.95
