WACO, Texas – Baylor track and field signed Janae De Gannes, an incoming freshman from Trinidad and Tobago, head coach Michael Ford announced Friday.



Gannes comes to Waco as a two-time NACAC U18 Champion and two-time National Champion in the long jump and 4x100 meters relay.



Gannes recently competed at the 2024 CARIFTA Games at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada, where she set a new CARIFTA Games record with a leap of 21-4 (6.5m) in the girls long jump under 20 category and took home the gold medal. This came also as a new personal record for Gannes as she improved her previous best of 20-0 ½ (6.11m).



At the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain, Gannes earned silver honors in the women’s long jump with a mark of 19-11 (6.07).



Gannes will be an extra addition to Coach Ford’s crew, that recently earned 10 total entries to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Among the 10 entries, five set program records throughout the season.
