WACO, Texas – Baylor acrobatics & tumbling alumna and current assistant coach Shayla Hutchins, née Moore, has been named to Team USA Weightlifting’s roster for the 2024 International Weightlifting Federation World Cup.

The 2024 IWF World Cup will be held in Phuket, Thailand, from March 31 through April 11.

Hutchins has served as an alternate for Team USA for the past year and she has made the official roster for the final Olympic Qualifying event of the year ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She currently competes in the 59kg weightlifting category.

This will be the Baylor graduate’s first IWF World Cup, as she competed at the 2022 IWF World Championships in Bogotá, Columbia. There, she earned fourth in the Clean & Jerk with 108kg, fifth in the total with 194kg and had a sixth-place finish in the Snatch at 86kg.

She won the Texas State Championships on January 14th of this year and won nationals in 2023 in the snatch, clean & jerk and total.

At the 2022 Pan American Championships, she competed in the 55kg competition, where she earned gold in the Clean & Jerk with 110kg, fourth in the snatch at 83kg and gold in the total with 193kg.

Hutchins has been competing in weightlifting for more than five years.

Hutchins and the Baylor acrobatics & tumbling team will open the season on Saturday, February 3, at Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas. The meet will start at 3 p.m. CT and be live streamed via TLU’s YouTube.
