Baylor WT Heads to Austin for ITA Kickoff Weekend

WACO, Texas – Baylor women’s tennis will make the trip to Austin to play No. 10 Texas on Friday at noon to begin action at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.



The Bears will wrap up the event against either SMU or Florida State on Saturday at 3 p.m. All three teams, including Baylor, are currently receiving votes in the ITA team rankings.



Baylor is seeking its first victory of the season and first over the Longhorns since the 2016-17 season. The last time the two teams faced each other was on April 15, 2023, resulting in a 6-1 setback by the Bears. Liubov Kostenko claimed Baylor’s lone point in singles, 6-4, 6-2.



ABOUT THE BEARS

The Bears are recovering from a loss at No. 9 Florida that saw two standout performances by a pair of newcomers. Sierra Berry took #23 Emily de Oliveira down to the wire in a third-set tiebreaker and Miska Kadleckova handily defeated #38 Carly Briggs, 6-0, 6-3.



ABOUT THE LONGHORNS

The No. 10-ranked Longhorns dropped their first match of the spring season, 5-2, at then-No. 16 UCLA. Texas started the contest at a 2-0 deficit after forfeiting two singles matches. The Longhorns’ outing against the Bears on Friday marks the first of four-straight at home.



ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

The Mustangs enter the weekend 1-2 after three matches against ranked opponents to start the season. After a pair of losses to No. 9 NC State and No. 15 Duke, SMU picked up its first win with a 4-3 decision over No. 17 Vanderbilt.



ABOUT THE SEMINOLES

The Seminoles opened their season with a 4-3 win over Old Dominion at home. This weekend marks Florida State’s first tests on the road. The Seminoles enter the event with two ranked doubles teams.
