LUBBOCK, Texas – Making its fifth consecutive appearance in Texas Tech’s Corky Classic, the Baylor track and field team is ready to hit the road for the second meet of the 2024 indoor season.

The meet is set to begin with a small schedule on Friday, only contesting the weight throw, high jump and men’s pole vault, beginning at 5 p.m.

With a full day scheduled on Saturday, the meet kicks off with the 1,000 meters at 10:40 a.m. and is projected to finish at 5 p.m. that evening.

Rankings have not yet been released for the 2024 season, but the Corky Classic features five men’s and four women’s top-25 squads from the final 2023 outdoor lists.

LSU leads in the men’s rankings at No. 4 and is followed by Texas Tech at six, Baylor at No. 19, Miami at No. 21 and Oklahoma at No. 22. In the women’s rankings, Kentucky leads the pack at No. 6 with LSU at seven, Oklahoma at No. 12 and Texas Tech at No. 25.

BU launched the season on Saturday, posting up three wins from Gary Moore Jr., Demario Prince and De’montray Callis. Moore Jr. in the weight throw and Alexis Brown in the long jump also set program records in their respective events.

The Bears had six entries into the Top-10 Marks of the Week, provided by USTFCCCA. Leading the pack was Brown with her top-three mark in the long jump. Prince, a freshman, was fourth in the men’s 60-meter hurdles while Demar Francis also found fourth in the 200 meters. The freshman pole vault duo of Molly Haywood and Alencia Lentz landed in a tie for sixth and the Baylor ‘A’ 4x400-meter relay comprised of Jasmine Gryne, Mariah Ayers, Gontse Morake and Imaobong Uko sit eighth.

With all results considered from the beginning of the indoor qualification period on December 1, those six Bears also fall within the top-16 marks in NCAA DI competition, a threshold needed to make it to Boston’s NCAA Indoor National Championship meet in March.

Live results will be provided online by PrimeTime Timing<https://live.pttiming.com/?mid=6011>. Big 12 Now on ESPN+ will carry the stream on both Friday<https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/c0ff8955-8819-413c-9088-82db2a0f8b1d> and Saturday<https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/bc609c9c-1efa-4cc6-b892-53b7f8eb0e34>.
