TEMPE, Ariz. – The 25th-ranked Baylor men’s tennis heads west to begin four straight matches in the state of Arizona. The Bears face Arizona State on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT at the Whiteman Tennis Center and No. 16 Arizona on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

Baylor (2-0) holds the advantage over both Arizona State (2-0) and Arizona (2-0), at 7-2 and 3-2, respectively, and rolls into the trip to the desert with its 18th 2-0 start to a season since 2000.

Playing ASU last season, BU defeated the Sun Devils in the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships before falling to them, 4-3, at the Hurd Tennis Center in March.

Facing Arizona once in each of the last three seasons, the Bears dropped their 2023 matchup with the Wildcats, 5-2, last February.

BU went 2-0 in their Saturday doubleheader to open the 2024 campaign. Ten Bears on the 12-man roster collected at least one singles win throughout the two matches, with Marko Miladinović going 2-0. The day also marked the first time Devin Badenhorst, Louis Bowden, Martin Breysach, Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Arman Zamani all picked up wins in a Baylor uniform.

With sweeping both doubles points, the Bears found success behind four different doubles pairings: Justin Braverman/Christopher Frantzen, Breysach/Brostrom Poulsen, Tadeas Paroulek/Zsombor Velcz and Badenhorst/Luc Koenig. With Braverman/Frantzen’s doubles win, all 12 players on the men’s tennis roster had at least one win on the day.

To open their seasons, Arizona State put up two 4-0 sweeps against Northern Arizona and Wichita State, while Arizona went up against UC San Diego twice, taking two wins in 7-0 and 6-1 fashion.
