Baylor WT Wins Third Straight with Pair of Home Victories on Friday
The Bears improved to 5-4 on the season with the home opening wins

WACO, Texas – The Baylor women’s tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Friday at the Hurd Tennis Center, powering past No. 27-ranked Denver and Incarnate Word.



A clean 6-0 sweep on court one during doubles play by Sierra Berry and Zuzanna Kubacha gave the Bears an early edge against Denver before Isabella Harvison and Liubov Kostenko clinched the doubles point for BU with a 6-1 victory on court three. With the win, the duo moved to 3-0 this season as doubles partners.



A 6-4, 6-1 win by Harvison at the No. 4 position pushed BU ahead, 2-0, before Denver responded with a pair of victories on No. 2 and No. 6 to knot the score at two-all. Kubacha battled on court five, outlasting her opponent, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), to give the Bears the one-point advantage before Kostenko clinched the match, 4-2, with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position.



In nightcap against Incarnate Word, the Bears began with an early advantage in doubles play due to a limited number of players available for the Cardinals and a scratch on court three, but UIW used a 6-2 win on court two and 6-3 victory on the top court to take the 1-0 lead.



Brooke Thompson won by default on No. 6 to level the score at one-all before an easy 6-0, 6-0 win by Lauren Littell on No. 5 pushed the Bears ahead, 2-1. The shutout marked Littell’s first victory of the spring season.



Berry picked up her first singles win of the season with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position to extend BU’s lead against the Cardinals. In her first appearance this spring, Daniella Dimitrov used a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win to clinch the Bears’ third-straight win, 4-1.



The Bears remain home for a pair of matches on Sunday, hosting Grand Canyon (10 a.m.) and Texas A&M (4 p.m.) at the Hurd Tennis Center. Admission to the matches is free for all fans.
